A visit to Seville
is perfect for anyone looking for cobbled streets and culture. The
city itself is peaceful, although the streets are alive with locals
going about there daily routine, travelling to work, dining and
enjoying coffee in quaint street cafes. Seville is one of Spains
historical beauties and is located in the Southeast of Spain, to
the left side you will spot the river and maybe some remnants of
the old Almohade Wall, the ruins are all that remain
today. Seville is the fourth largest city in Spain and offers over
3000 years of history for all to see!
Visit Santa
Cruz, San Bartolom, San Vicente,
San Lorenzo and El Arenal for a true
feel of the city. Walk along narrow cobbled streets and admire the
whitewashed stone houses with flowering window boxes. The smell
of coffee will no doubt attract you to one of the many small cafes,
where you can sit in the Spanish sun and read a book or local paper.

The Old
Jewish Quarter - Santa Cruz is a favourite for most tourists.
Once this whole neighbourhood was surrounded by a large stone wall,
the only access being a set of gates toward the front of the town.
The walls of the Alcazar are still seen although they do not need
to protect Sevilles people as once they did. The homes within the
town have beautiful garden patios and the streets are worn showing
there age and offering a little more historic thought of the people
who lived here hundreds of years ago. Artsist from all over the
world come here to soak up the atmosphere and relax. Washington
Irving loved the place so much that in he moved here...can you blame
him!
When you have
explored the streets visit the alcazar or the Seville cathedral.
The wonderful
Cathedral of Seville started life back in the 12C
as a mosque, many years later it was decided that a tower should
be constructed, and the Seville Cathedral was reborn. The tower
now looks over the town and can be seen from miles around, it is
known as one of the largest Cathedrals in the world. The tower is
ornate, with intricate designs and carvings. Within the church itself
these characteristics continue with carvings, the gothic retablo
is comprised of 45 carved scenes from the life of Christ.
A visit to Seville
in the summer is for those of you who can stand the heat. For families
with young children it may be easier to visit in springtime when
the climate is mild.
