A
holiday in Spain by Heidi Walsh - Part I
"A
Holiday in Spain" consists of photos that I took with my digital
camera. That was an old Kodak and it only had a 16 MB disk which
is not much. I didn't get round to buying a new disk because I didn't
even know I was going to Spain until the night before I was leaving.

It was in the summer holidays 2001 when I found myself all alone
in the house in front of my computer screen. My children had gone
away for the summer and my husband had to work. A few weeks before
I had been looking forward to being all alone with my homepage.
But after two days I couldn't stand the silence any more. I hurried
to the nearest travel agency and booked a "Last Minute" flight.
The only one I could get was a flight to Spain, although I would
have preferred Greece.
I
didn't even know what part of Spain I was going to when the plane
landed in Almeria. It was not long before I realized this holiday
would not be what I had expected when the taxi dropped me off in
the centre of the red cross on the map. It was in the middle of
nowhere!

I
checked into a hotel which wasn't quite finished yet. It had opened
only a week before. A fantastic hotel by the way with great rooms
and delicious food! The only thing that bothered me at my arrival
was the silence that greeted me. I seemed to be the only guest around.
The
girl at the reception didn't speak English, German or French and
I didn't know any Spanish. I would have learned some, had I known
I was going to Spain. That was the first time in my life I couldn't
make myself understood, not a very pleasant experience.

But the worst thing was that it was so quiet, worse than at home
actually. The hotel had rooms for 800 people but in the first four
days there were only 30 guests.
Apart
from myself there were two young people and some very old English
couples. The picture "Deck Chairs" shown above is the pool at noon.
