A
holiday in Spain by Heidi Walsh -
Part II
I
changed my plans. I had wanted to go snorkeling and to watch tourists
*g*, but I rented a car instead and drove 1500 kilometres in five
days. I only came across one major city which was Almeria.
All
the other places were too far away. So I saw a lot of scenery, rather
boring in some parts but spectacular in others.
I will never forget the day when I got lost in the mountains, the
Sierra Nevada. I had bought a map at a gas station but it had obviously
been lying there for decades because I just couldn't find my way
with it.

After an 8 hour drive I realized that I would die of thirst because
I would never find my way back to the main road. I was just trying
to come to terms with my fate when all of a sudden a police car
appeared out of nowhere.

We
communicated in international sign language and the policeman showed
me the way back to Almeria and from there it was "only" 100 kilometres
back to the hotel. Obviously I had been driving in circles. How
stupid can one get?
At
8.30 p.m. I arrived at the hotel. The first thing I ordered was
a cool beer. It was so delicious I will always remember it...
